Lindsay and I met with Juma and Jonathan to discuss how we should go forward with the project, the deadlines and any last details regarding the budget. During the meeting we had a model which was made in Oslo and brought to Eco-Moyo for this exact purpose. Afterwards we went to the location where we are building to decide the placement of the two classes.
Jonathan is our local contractor and has been involved in several constructions at Eco-Moyo. He himself is a bricklayer and his team specialize in the use of Casuarina and Makuti - which also happens to be some of the materials we are going to use for constructing the two classrooms. It is the first time Jonathan and I work together – and so far, it seems that we understand each other and agree on things.
While Jonathan is our contractor, Juma is considered by many to be one of the best fundis (skilled workers) in the area. During the meeting Jonathan therefore elected Juma as his foreman to guide the construction when he is not around. This means that most of the work will be coordinated by the two of them.
We agreed that on Monday Juma, Jonathan and I lay the building out. Before a group of kibarouas (local workers) come to dig the trenches on Tuesday.
