Digging the trenches

The aim of today was to start and finish digging the trenches for the coral stone foundations. Chalk was used to mark either side of the string - this mark needs to be the width of a coral stone plus enough space for a foot on either side of the stone to be able to maneuver in the trench when the foundations are being laid.

I brought the model that was built in Oslo to show all the workers how the final structure is supposed to look – the model has several purposes as described yesterday – when we discuss budget and material orders – but another is that it’s supposed to communicate to the workers what they are doing, and what we are trying to achieve with these buildings, and so far it seems that everyone is on board and likes it – while they turn it around they also ask questions regarding materials, finishes and the purpose of the space and how it relates to the surroundings.

At the end of the day we received a delivery of hardcore (lower quality coral stones) which is used as a base layer in the foundation. After that a delivery of coral stones also made it's way to the site. So now everything is set for coming up from the ground.
